Title: Telecom Marketing Innovations

Speaker: Dr. Divya Sethi, Executive Vice President and Business Head, Vodafone Idea

Abstract: In an increasingly competitive and saturated telecom market, customer-centric marketing innovation (CCMI) has emerged as a crucial strategy for sustainable growth and profitability. The telecom industry faces challenges such as faces challenged related to Average Revenue Per User (ARPU), intense price competition, and shifting consumer expectations. Traditional marketing approaches focused on mass promotions and price-driven strategies are no longer sufficient to ensure customer loyalty. Instead, CCMI emphasizes personalized engagement, data-driven insights, and innovative service models to enhance customer experience throughout the lifecycle. The integration of customer value theory with marketing innovation enables companies to bridge the gap between service differentiation and customer satisfaction. However, implementing CCMI requires overcoming challenges such as data privacy concerns, digital transformation hurdles, and the need for continuous investment in technology and talent. This discussion explores the impact of customer-centric marketing innovation in the Indian telecom industry, highlighting strategies for enhancing customer loyalty, increasing profitability, and driving long-term competitive advantage.

Title: Decoupling of the services

Speaker: Dr. Ravi Gandhi, President | Chief Public Policy & Regulatory Officer, Reliance Retail and President | Chief Regulatory Officer, Jio

Abstract: The decoupling of services in the telecommunications industry refers to the separation of network infrastructure, service provisioning, and customer-facing applications, enabling greater flexibility, innovation, and competition. Traditionally, telecom operators offered bundled services that included voice, data, and value-added features, often locking customers into strict pricing and contractual structures. However, as consumer needs change and technology advances, service decoupling has developed as a strategic approach to improving customer choice, operational efficiency, and market dynamism. Telecom operators can unbundle core services by employing cloud computing, software-defined networking, and network function virtualization resulting in modular and on-demand offerings. This shift promotes competition by allowing third-party service providers to enter the market, driving innovation in digital services, over-the-top applications, and enterprise solutions. While decoupling presents opportunities for telecom firms to explore new revenue streams and improve service agility, it also brings challenges such as regulatory complexities, integration issues, and potential revenue cannibalization. This discussion explores the implications of service decoupling in the telecom sector, addressing its benefits, risks, and strategic considerations for sustainable growth and customer-centric service models.
